Production Standard

Important message regarding EU RED status.

Update: Following the official letter sent by Simon Usher to Paula Marques, Head of Directorate C1 Renewable and CCS Policy, on 2nd November 2016, we received an answer on 2nd December 2016, which can be viewed here. We are pleased that the EU commission has taken our request into consideration by

  • Informing the Member States that they can continue to accept evidence from voluntary schemes for a transition period after the official recognition has expired
  • Focusing on advancing the formal recognition process

We hope for a quick finalisation of this process. We are also forwarding the letter to ISCC so they can inform their certified members. In the meantime, please do reach out to us directly if there are specific issues where you would like our input or support.

—————-

As you may know, Bonsucro EU RED recognition was valid for five years. Although Bonsucro started the recognition process well in advance of the due date with the support of a consultant, the EU commission has taken more time than expected to re-approve the voluntary schemes. For this reason, the final decision is still pending and we are liaising with the EU to accelerate the process. In the meantime, the EU Commission has issued this letter aimed at all member states to request them to accept biofuels certified by schemes that are still in the process of recognition.

Introducing Bonsucro Connect

  • Volume and trade management of certified material for traceability
  • Facilitation of the audit process
  • Scorecards to track progress

Read more about the platform.

There is an increasingly wide acceptance of the fact that all agricultural and industrial enterprises need to operate in a manner in which not just the economic but also the social and environmental factors are promoted. At the same time energy use, production efficiency, elimination of wastage and the effect on global climate change all need to be considered.

The main aim of the Bonsucro Standard is to promote measureable standards in key environmental and social impacts of sugarcane production and primary processing while recognizing the need for economic viability.
