Bonsucro is the leading global sustainability platform and standard for sugarcane, one of the world’s most important crops. We are a global force with the purpose of collectively accelerating the sustainable production and uses of sugarcane, focusing on climate action, human rights and value in the supply chain.
Our global network brings together over 300 members from more than 50 countries to address critical challenges in the sugarcane sector and drive both performance and impact through our system of sustainability standards. We work across all sugarcane products and derivatives – sugar, ethanol, molasses, and bagasse in traditional and newer market sectors, from sugar and alcohol to biofuels and bioplastics.

Our members have the option to drive sustainability further and become certified. A Bonsucro certificate is internationally recognised and respected. By achieving a certificate, you can improve your image, achieve sustainability procurement goals, build partnerships to tackle sustainability issues together.
Pushing the sustainable uses of sugarcane happens across the value chain. We have projects and resources that focus on various areas including climate action, living wage and smallholder farmers. You can learn more about our impacts here.
Bonsucro is ISEAL Code Compliant. Our system has been independently evaluated against ISEAL’s Codes of Good Practice– a globally-recognised framework for effective, credible sustainability systems. More information is available at www.isealalliance.org.
15 years | 3 evolutionary steps

1.0 The initiative (2005-2010)
Built a credible multi-stakeholder organisation for better sugarcane, initially focused on creating a global, objective performance standard for everything that mattered about producing sugarcane and its primary derived products.

2.0 The certification scheme (2011-2015)
Launched certification in 2011 under a new brand name of Bonsucro and for the next four years demonstrated the ability to manage and maintain both the framework behind the Standard as well as a credible third party certification.

3.0 The global sugarcane platform (2016 onwards)
Responding to stakeholders and recognising significant shifts in industry and development
thinking (role of certification and standards organisations), Bonsucro is repositioning itself to become the global change platform for sugarcane.
