Bonsucro Production Standard training for African producers

Free training sessions for African sugarcane producers and producer organisations on the agricultural section of the new Bonsucro Production Standard v5.1.

This free training will focus specifically on the agricultural section of the Bonsucro Production Standard. These sessions are open to all African sugarcane producers and producer organisations. They will provide attendees with a better understanding of the agricultural production indicators, as well as provide support for the implementation process.

The sessions will be delivered by our Regional Director for Africa and the Middle East, Boudewijn Goosens, and Miguel Tejada Iraizoz, former member of the Production Standard Revision Working Group. The training will be delivered in English, however, Miguel can also respond to questions in French.

Session 1: 23 May 

Time: 11:00-14:00 CAT/13:00-16:00 Mauritius time

This first training will cover the following topics:

  • The certification process and certification scope options
  • Introduction to the Bonsucro Production Standard for farms
  • An explanation of how the Bonsucro calculator works for farms
  • An explanation of how the Bonsucro calculator links to the Standard
  • Q&A session

Homework

In-between the two sessions, we invite attendees to work on collecting the information needed to complete the Bonsucro calculator. These tasks include:

  • Studying the Production Standard
  • Watching the Production Standard technical training videos
  • Completing the Bonsucro calculator for farming operations, as far as possible
  • Taking notes of any questions and/or non-conformities

This Q&A session will cover the Bonsucro calculator and key agricultural indicators of the new Bonsucro Production Standard.
