To meet our members’ needs, we have engaged in the process of renewing Bonsucro’s recognition by the EU Commission to enable the export of Bonsucro EU certified biofuel to the Union.
As announced in November 2020, the EU has updated its Renewable Energy Directive (referred to as RED II) and has required all schemes to update their requirements to align with the new directive.
Supported by Brikmann consulting, Bonsucro has already provided a first draft of an updated Bonsucro EU Standard. The process is led by Celine Orthlieb and should end in the second part of 2021 at the latest.
Despite our efforts, the process is currently delayed as the European Union has not published the full legislative instruments that frame the implementation of EU RED II (including the transition period), meaning we haven’t yet been able to finalise the Bonsucro EU Standard.
In the meantime, Nicolas Viart is attending several workshops organised by the EU who is developing a centralised Union Database to improve the traceability of gaseous and liquid fuels in Transport Sector (as per article 28 (2) and (4) of EU RED II).
Bonsucro participation is to ensure the views and experience of our members is represented. The database is likely to be launched by the end of 2022. Please get in touch with Nicolas Viart if you would like to receive more information.
