Capacity building programme on responsible recruitment in the sugarcane sector

An important workshop exploring Human Rights Due Diligence topics in depth

Date: 21 November 2025
Location: Anantara Siam Bangkok Hotel, Bangkok 10330, Thailand
Time: 9:00 am to 5:00 pm (ICT)

This in-person training will be in Thai and for Bonsucro members only.

As part of our commitment to strengthening human rights and decent work in sugarcane farming and milling, we have partnered with internationally recognised Human Rights consultancy, Embode, to launch a series of in-person training sessions on Responsible Recruitment and Grievance Mechanisms. The training is designed to strengthen the ability to identify and respond to labour risks within sugarcane mills and farms, therefore helping to reduce potential risks of forced labour in the sector.

This comprehensive training session focuses on providing actionable insights and tools across two critical areas:

  • Responsible Recruitment—Building a Foundation of Trust
    • Unethical recruitment is a direct pathway to forced labour. This module shows you how to establish a positive employment foundation by focusing on the Employer Pays Principle, identifying risks using the “worker journey map,” and navigating the legal landscape across national and regional standards. We will also detail the severe consequences of inaction (legal risks, failed audits, buyer pressure) for your business.
  • Grievance Mechanisms—Ensuring Accountability and Remedy
    • An effective Grievance Mechanism acts as an early warning system and provides access to a remedy. This module covers the purpose and value of safe grievance channels, introduces the 7-Step Grievance Process (from Issue Identification to Remedy Implementation), and guides you on how to consult stakeholders (especially workers) to review, develop, and monitor the effectiveness of your existing mechanisms.
