Bonsucro Week 2018 Overview

Bonsucro Week 2018 is organized in partnership with the Comité Nacional de Productores de Azúcar (CNPA), one of our committed members in Central America. Bonsucro is currently confirming speaker’s contributions to the event, and will add this detail to the programme as it becomes available. Visits to the operations of Ingenio San Antonio and Ingenio Monte Rosa are confirmed. Bonsucro is grateful for all the support it is getting from its Nicaraguan members.

Day 1: CONNECT WITH THE BONSUCRO MEMBERSHIP COMMUNITY

Bonsucro Week will start off with an interactive day for members and special guests, welcoming our most committed stakeholders to a week-long event aimed to learn, share and connect with the world of sustainable sugarcane. This is the time to unite diverse sugarcane stakeholders, review Bonsucro’s 2017 changes and achievements, as well as project our 2018 new year’s sustainable prospects. You will have the opportunity be part of an interactive day by sharing your insights and opinions, learning from other practitioners and coming together to understand the power of our network. Catch up with old friends, and make new ones at the Bonsucro Cocktail Reception.

Day 2: THE 21ST CENTURY WORKPLACE IN THE SUGARCANE SECTOR

Day 2 of Bonsucro Week 2018 will involve an entire day dedicated to exploring both challenges and solutions related to a core element of sustainability: labour. Leading experts will share their insights about the changing nature of work in the sugarcane sector. Explore the complex landscape of interrelated issues, like mechanisation of field work, attracting young talent, changes in the international regulatory environment and increasing customer pressure to demonstrate decent labour conditions. Continue the conversation during the Bonsucro Awards Dinner, where the winner of this year’s Bonsucro Award will be announced.

Day 3: LEARN & SHARE AT BONSUCRO LIVING ROOM TALK

Day 3 you will have the chance to be part of our first Bonsucro Living Room Talk. Members and other stakeholders will be presenting their experiences in creating value through sugarcane in an informal living room setting. A series of three parallel thematic sessions will give you the opportunity to sit down and talk about topics that matter to you with your peers and stakeholders. In between sessions, there is the possibility to attend short Bonsucro Clinics, designed to get to know our products and services better.

Days 4 & 5: WITNESS SUSTAINABILITY EFFORTS IN PRACTICE

The final two days of Bonsucro Week will offer you the possibility to see active mills and field work and learn about sugarcane and sustainability in person. You will be warmly received by two of our leading members in Nicaragua, who will show you their sustainability efforts and how Bonsucro’s standards are applied in practice. San Antonio is the first Bonsucro certified mill in Nicaragua, and the Monte Rosa mill is working hard to gain that status soon. These two interesting days will be complemented with an enjoyable visit to a country club, and create a lasting memory of Nicaragua that will stick with you in your professional and personal life.
